You can even fill the column of the speaker stands with sand to give them more bulk. The stands are quite expensive but can be bolted directly to the speakers and have spikes to ensure they are as solid possible. To listen to the 707 S3, I also borrowed a pair of Bowers & Wilkins FS-700 S3 speaker stands.

Bowers & WilkinsĪll the 700 Series speakers have larger diameter Flowports that offer more substantial output, ensuring a bigger and more expansive sound, depending on the cabinet size. The terminals feed the signal to new and upgraded crossovers that still use Mundorf capacitors but with enhanced multiple bypass capacitors and improved heatsinking for a cleaner performance.īowers & Wilkins has slimmed down the cabinet proportions on the latest 700 Series and the front. New to the Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series is a new set of 800 Series Diamond-inspired speaker terminals that feature more substantial contact connections that are better laid out for use with spade-terminated speaker cable. Listening to these tiny speakers is quite a revelation. While the 707 S3 doesn’t and can’t deliver sub-woofer levels of bass, the speakers put out a sterling performance that projects the rhythm of the music in a wonderfully musical way. The bass and midrange frequencies on the 707 S3 are delivered with a single mid/bass drive unit that has been upgraded with a new motor system and improved chassis for cleaner and more solid output. The upshot of this new tweeter is to produce one of the most tightly focussed sound stages I’ve ever heard from a small speaker. The tweeters take care of the treble frequencies and have vented voice coils with upgraded magnets. The 707 S3 I reviewed has the same Carbon Dome tweeter as the other speakers in the series. I chose the BS + stands and am still glad I did so.The Bowers & Wilkins 707 S3 bookshelf speaker features a new carbon dome tweeter and redesigned.

The combined cost plus some addition would have gotten me the FS in the same series. When I bought my BS speakers, I went for the stands made by the company for those specific speakers costing almost 60% of the speaker price. I could be technically wrong and glad to be corrected. These are of course my subjective reasons. Thirdly, BS actually suit (in my opinion) vocal and acoustic music better - any wonder why companies like Harbeth have only BS/SM and not FS? BS generally image better and sound feels like coming from one point than as a wall.

Secondly, some of us don’t want three or more drivers (though you get FS with just two or even one driver, that’s rare in budget systems) - our space or living conditions (apartments) don’t allow bass to propagate to neighbours etc. Firstly the looks - to me BS with a nice matching stands look gorgeous in comparison to a tall cuboid FS that bodes enormity. However, I'd rather prefer the convenience of buying wooden stands online so any leads in this respect will be much appreciated.īookshelves have their own advantages. Since they seem to be out stock, i was planning on getting 4-6 of them made for my bookshelf speakers. the other option for me was an Ikea Dalfred Bar Stool (i happened to see an Evo kept on the stool and they looked brilliant). One thing that caught my eyes were the tontrager reference stands which look like they could be replicated in India through a reasonable skilled carpenter. I was looking for speaker stands myself for the Evos. Interesting post and right at the opportune time. Hes actually reviewed them and i am posting the link below for reference:

The hi fi rack that andrew robinson has seems to be the most pratical and perfectly designed AV rack.

Unfortunately, none of the so called media cabinets that i found online (after many many hours of searching) seem to be practical enough or for that matter, deep enough for proper hi fi electronics (most have depths of only 12-15 inches) and not enough ventilation. i want to do away with the SF Nemesis and and the Hifi rack ( black glass shelves with blacked metal pillars) entirely if possible as most of my furniture is wood and both these items kinda stick out like a sore thumb. I have the SF Nemesis which look great with the KEFs but terrible with the EVos.
